i happened to be explaining yesterday to (1) someone who doesn’t do fandom and then to (2) someone who’s seen sherlock and is on tumblr but isn’t, like, Invested— what my dashboard is usually like.  the confusion from (1) was understandable. the look on (2)’s face as i took her through the succession of “and then there’s a photoset of eight that’s the same close-up on moriarty’s face in every one, and it’s actually on my dash several times and one person’s tagged it with invectives, and another’s captioned it ‘fkcUCkj’; and then there’s that picture of cumberbatch on the star trek that’s become a meme in the last five hours; and then there’s fanart that’s so emotionally accurate it makes my heart stop; and then someone else watched a gif set for ten minutes and found enlightenment, and…” reminded me forcefully that no, actually

even this person who knows all about Feels recognizes that you are goddamn ridiculous.
