It’s funny how Sherlock immediately looks at John after ‘showing off’. And he’s all proud of it too, with that smile. He’s like:”Did you see that, John? I totally deduced the shit out of those people.”

But John’s like scolding him with that look and head movement. He’s like:”Stop showing off, Sherlock. I don’t approve of your behaviour at all.”

That’s when Sherlock’s smile falls. He’s disappointed that John isn’t all fascinated by his brilliant deductions, like he usually is. For a second, he looks at John all:”Fine, be like that.” And then decides to look at Moriarty to see what hethought of it. “If John doesn’t appreciate my abilities, maybe someone else will.”

And right he was. Just look at Moriarty’s smile. He’s all:”I’m impressed, Sherlock. Do go on.” He was just enjoying himself (knowing he wasn’t going to be found guilty anyway), amused by Sherlock’s massive ego intellect. 

Sherlock Holmes maintains many important relationships.  It’s one of the primary joys of the show, tbh; that some fanboys took 100+ years of rock-solid fanon and built these rebooted characters around it.

I am all for the importance of both John and Moriarty in Sherlock’s life, but lololol of course Moriarty is the one egging him on in his show-off dickery. don’t forget to be extra-ordinary x
